No. 17 MGCCC shuts out Northeast
PERKINSTON — No. 17 Mississippi Gulf Coast crushed Northeast Mississippi 9-0 Thursday in MACCC women's tennis action at the MGCCC Tennis Complex.
The Bulldogs dropped only one game in winning 12 sets. Northeast had only five players available, so two courts were automatic victories for Gulf Coast.
Gulf Coast improved to 9-5 overall, 9-4 MACCC. The Bulldogs have won five of their last six matches.
Tanyaradzwa Kaome (Fr., Harare, Zimbabwe/The Heritage School) and Kasey Kent (So., Ridgeland/Ridgeland) won their No. 1 doubles match 8-0, as did Abigail Garman (Fr., Diamondhead/Hancock) and Hayden Hensarling (Fr., Ocean Springs/Ocean Springs) at No. 2.
Kaome, Garman, Josie Vuyovich (Fr., St. Martin/St. Martin) and Ashlegh Wine (Fr., Ocean Springs/Ocean Springs) won their singles matches 6-0, 6-0.
Gulf Coast plays the first of three non-conference matches next week against Point University, MGCCC coach Sam Blackburn's alma mater, on Tuesday. The teams will meet halfway in Montgomery, Ala., and start at 11 a.m.
