Cade, Lam named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week

PERKINSTON — Kristen Cade and Raymond Lam have been named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of March 2-8.

Cade, a sophomore from Harrison Central, picked up four wins and had a no-hitter against ranked teams last week for No. 2 Gulf Coast. She struck out nine and walked three in a 7-0 no-hitter over No. 16 LSU Eunice, then pitched the final five outs to cap off a 10-run comeback in a 12-11 victory in the second game. Cade struck out 10 and walked two in a three-hit 3-0 shutout of No. 12 Itawamba, then won Game 2 with four innings of six-strikeout work in a 7-6 comeback win. She allowed her only two runs of the week in the final outing, only one earned.

Lam, a freshman from Biloxi, had a perfect week for No. 19 Gulf Coast, winning four times in singles and another four times in doubles.

Rakeya Travis, a freshman shortstop from Poplarville, batted .571 with three home runs and 11 RBI to help Gulf Coast stay unbeaten with four wins over ranked opponents. She went 3-for-4 with a home run four RBI to help power a 10-run comeback in a 12-11 win over No. 16 LSU Eunice. Against No. 12 Itawamba, she had a two-run homer in a 3-0 win in the first game and added two game-tying hits in a 7-6 comeback win in the nightcap. She extended her hit streak to nine games, including homers in the last three games.

Daphane White, a center from St. Martin, averaged a point a minute in getting Gulf Coast to the Region 23 semifinals. She had 26 points, nine rebounds and five blocks in a 76-71 win over Itawamba, and came back with 17 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks in a 62-54 loss to Northwest.

Connor Spencer, a freshman outfielder from Hernando, had two home runs and batted .500 in three games for Gulf Coast. He had a home run in both games of a doubleheader against Mississippi Delta, and he walked four times for an OPS of 2.200.

Chasity Snyder, a freshman from Florence, won all six of her matches last week for No. 18 Gulf Coast, including a three-set clincher in a 5-4 win over Co-Lin.
