Chancelor, Shelvy named Bulldogs of the Week
PERKINSTON — Royale Shelvy and Reagan Chancelor have been named Bulldogs of the Week for Sept. 1-7.
Shelvy, a freshman wide receiver from Fayette, made both his receptions count. He had a pair of touchdowns in No. 9 Gulf Coast's 58-7 win over Mississippi Delta, including a 94-yarder, tied for the third longest in school history.
Chancelor, a freshman midfielder from Hattiesburg, played a vital defensive role in Gulf Coast's 1-0 loss to No. 2 Johnson County.
Also nominated:
Laurel Conley, a sophomore keeper from Ocean Springs, stopped 11 shots against No. 2 Johnson County in a narrow 1-0 defeat. It's the only goal she's allowed this season.
Mariah Hammond, a freshman outside hitter from Slidell, La., had 25 kills during a 1-1 week for Gulf Coast. She had 18 kills in a five-set win at Northeast, hitting at .400.
Cambell Herrington, a freshman defensive specialist from Brandon, had 31 digs (3.44 D/S) in a 1-1 week for the Bulldogs.
Logan Jensen, a freshman from Diamondhead, finished 16th at the NJCAA Championship Preview in Plymouth, Ind. He shot 1-over to help lead the five-freshman Gulf Coast team to a fifth-place finish.
Cruz Johnson, a freshman tight end from Canton, had a great special teams game for No. 9 Gulf Coast in a 58-7 win over Mississippi Delta. He blocked a punt, scooped it up and scored a touchdown.
Khalil Norwood, a freshman linebacker from Brandon, had a pair of sacks in No. 9 Gulf Coast's 58-7 win over Mississippi Delta. One of them resulted in a forced fumble that caused a safety.
