Holley named MGCCC interim Cheer coach

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast cheer alum Brittney Holley is now in charge of the team she was once part of as a cheerleader.

Holley has been named interim head coach of the MGCCC Cheer Team for 2020-21.

"I'm extremely excited," she said. "I can't wait to get in there and help everybody express their love and passion for cheer that I also have. I can't wait to share that with our new team."

Gulf Coast is putting the finishing touches on its application and virtual tryout procedure, which will be announced soon.

It will be her second year with the squad after serving as assistant this year. Holley is the head coach at ACE Cheer Company of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, formerly South Elite Cheer, in Wiggins. She has been tumbling instructor since 2012 and helped develop its All-Star program which has won a slew of national awards.

Holley previously served as co-head coach at Forrest County AHS for three years, leading them to a number of titles and awards.

"I want to connect with everyone on the team and see what their personalities are, what their strengths and weaknesses are, and get them together as a team," she said. "We'll get the basic techniques down and work up from there."

The Perkinston native started in her youth as a competitive gymnast for eight years and was the state all-around champion. She cheered at Stone High where she finished sixth at the 2008 Best Cheerleader Competition at MHSAA State Cheer Competition.

As a former Bulldog cheerleader, she has a huge passion for the school and the program.

She is married to Tyler Holley, and they have two daughters, Brynlee, 8, and Braelyn, 5.
