We Take Care: NJCAA Forward

PERKINSTON — The cancelation of the NJCAA's spring sports season has created an emptiness in our lives. Saturday, for example, Mississippi Gulf Coast was scheduled to play men's and women's tennis matches, as well as baseball and softball doubleheaders.

Today, classes resume at Gulf Coast, and we start building again. Building our minds and bodies in a time of great uncertainty.

We're proud to be part of the 500-plus member institutions of the NJCAA which represents 60,000 student-athletes. Today, it launches NJCAA Forward, an endeavor that seeks to showcase how two-year colleges are progressing through this uncertain time period of our lives.

In the coming days and weeks, Gulf Coast will share how our student-athletes are moving forward with their pursuits, both athletic and academic. We'll share Bulldog success stories, both past and present, and take some time to look back at the history of our great athletic programs.

But bear this in mind: We Take Care.

  1. We take care of ourselves

Bulldogs follow the instructions of our leaders at the college, in the community and from state and national authorities. Bulldogs practice good personal hygiene, as spelled out by the Center for Disease Control (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/prevention.html). If we experience symptoms, we take appropriate actions (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/if-you-are-sick/steps-when-sick.html).

  1. We take care of our families

Those same steps keep our families safe. Current Bulldogs may be young and strong, but their actions keep family members who may be vulnerable to disease.

  1. We take care of our community

Bulldogs aren't congregating with groups to help prevent the further spread of COVID-19 to flatten the curve. Many Bulldogs are studying to serve in the health care field, where they'll join untold numbers of past Gulf Coast graduates in taking care of the people who need it most.

  1. We take care of our academic responsibilities

Our lives will get back to normal, and Bulldogs will be there having completed or making progress toward academic degrees.

  1. We take care of our teams

Bulldogs can't work out with our teams now, but we can keep making ourselves better through individual workouts. Bulldogs encourage their teammates to do the same, working toward their 2020-21 seasons.

So, everybody Take Care. Of yourselves, your families, your communities. Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College joins our national association as we move NJCAA Forward.
