Lovertich named MGCCC Student-Athlete of the Week

PERKINSTON — Chance Lovertich has been named MGCCC Student-Athlete of the Week for Sept. 16-22.

Lovertich, a sophomore quarterback from Jackson Prep, completed 18 of 25 passes for 202 yards and a touchdown in No. 4 Gulf Coast's 20-14 win over No. 13 Jones.

Also nominated:

Navonteque Strong, a freshman linebacker from Forest, had six total tackles, including a game-clinching red-zone sack, in No. 4 Mississippi Gulf Coast's 20-14 win over No. 13 Jones. He corralled the quarterback on fourth-and-6 on the 12 to thwart the final Bobcat possession. He also had one pass breakup and one quarterback hurry.

Isaiah Gore, a freshman keeper from Laurel, went 2-0 with a 0.75 GAA last week for Mississippi Gulf Coast. In a 6-0 win over Holmes, he had two saves and had six saves in a 2-1 win over Hinds.

Cisco Thomas, a sophomore midfielder from Mississauga, Ontario, had three assists in a 6-0 win over Holmes. He was also menacing in a 2-1 against Hinds.
