White, Strong named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week

PERKINSTON — Daphane White and Navonteque Strong have been named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week for Oct. 28-Nov. 3.

White, a sophomore forward from St. Martin, narrowly missed a double-double in Gulf Coast's season-opening 64-55 win at Baton Rouge. She had 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting and nine rebounds. White also blocked two shots.

Strong, a freshman linebacker from Forest, filled up the stat sheet in No. 1 Gulf Coast's 31-7 win over No. 13 East Mississippi in the MACJC semifinals. He had three sacks among 10 total tackles and also returned an interception 26 yards. Strong had four quarterback hurries.

Also nominated:

Chad Hudson, a freshman defender from St. Patrick, scored the tying goal for Gulf Coast in the 87the minute to force overtime in the MACJC championship game against Jones. It was his first collegiate goal.

Isaiah Gore, a freshman keeper from Laurel, stopped all eight shots in a 1-0 MACJC semifinal win over Pearl River. He stopped five of seven shots in a 2-2 tie against Jones that saw Gulf Coast advance on penalties.

Dillyn Neely, a sophomore guard from Biloxi, had 15 points in 14 minutes during the Bulldogs' 60-34 win over Taylor Made Academy. He shot 50 percent from the 3-point arc on 4-of-8 shooting. Neely also had four rebounds.

Marquise Bridges, a sophomore wide receiver from Brookhaven, had nine catches for 130 yards against East Mississippi. His 14-yard touchdown catch and run in the third quarter helped break the game open.

Caden Davis, a freshman kicker/punter from Pearl, handled all kicking duties for against East Mississippi. He averaged 42.7 yards on three punts and was perfect on four PATs and a 23-yard field goal.
