MGCCC needs repeat performance against ECCC

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast's recipe for a win last week at then-No. 13 Copiah-Lincoln will keep the Bulldogs in good stead if they keep following it.
Their next game is Thursday back at the friendly confines of A.L. May Memorial Stadium. Kickoff against East Central is 7 p.m.
"We were physical," Gulf Coast coach Chad Huff said. "There were still a lot of mistakes that we can get better off it, but at the end of the day, winning the line of scrimmage is the name of the game and I thought we did that on both sides of the football."

Against Co-Lin, the Bulldogs (2-1, 1-0 MACJC South) ran for 223 yards and held the Wolves to 280 total yards. Terrion Avery (Fr, Stone/Wiggins) and Deandre Torrey (Fr, Gautier/Gautier) broke the 100-yard mark.
East Central (1-2, 0-1) scored a ton of points last week against Pearl River but lost 59-40. The Warriors ran for 189 yards and threw for 295, using their usual variety of formations, including unbalanced ones, and pre-snap shifts.
"They'll run the football, run the football, then slip a receiver down the seam on play action," Huff said. "In every game I've looked at, there's guys running free."
Gulf Coast has seen all three of their quarterbacks play in the first three games. No matter whom the Bulldogs see, a repeat of their efforts last week will help their cause.
"Defensively, I thought we did a good job controlling the line of scrimmage," Huff said. "They didn't run the ball for much. Their quarterback had a couple of scrambles, but I was real pleased with our defensive line play."
