Bulldogs suffer 1st loss of the season

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast turned the ball over 29 times and gave up 21 offensive rebounds, a recipe that resulted in the Bulldogs' first loss of the year. Jones won 78-69 Thursday at the Weathers-Wentzell Center.

Melvion Flanagan (So., Peabody/Alexandria, La.) led the Bulldogs with 21 points and had four assists. Carr Thiam (So., Wharton/Tampa, Fla.) had a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds, as did Anthony Ratliff (So., Terry/Jackson) with 10 and 11.

Gulf Coast (5-1) held Jones (5-0) to 34 percent shooting in the first half but shot a miserable 25.7 percent on the other end. The Bulldogs trailed by 17 at halftime and by as many as 22 points.

The Bulldogs made it interesting down the stretch, but never got closer than seven.

Lee Flenor (So., South Miami/Miami, Fla.) had 10 points and nine rebounds for MGCCC.

Gulf Coast plays its last game before Thanksgiving on Tuesday. The Bulldogs travel to Baton Rouge for a 7:30 tipoff.
