No. 7 MGCCC swept by No. 1 JCJC

No. 7 Mississippi Gulf Coast lost twice in a top-10 showdown against top-ranked Jones County on Wednesday, falling 4-0 and 10-2 at Biloxi High School.

The Lady Bulldogs (8-6, 3-3 MACJC) got a stellar pitching performance from Avery Sanders (Fr, E.D. White/Thibodaux, La.) in the opener. She held the Bobcats (19-1, 6-0) to two hits through the first five innings before Jones scored a run on a pair of singles.

An error in the seventh opened the door for three more runs. Sanders (2-1) was only charged with two earned runs while striking out five in the complete game.

Katie Beth Williams (Fr, Smithville/Smithville) had the sole Gulf Coast hit, which came in the seventh.

Sydney Davis (Fr, Tri-County Academy/Clinton) didn't get out of the first inning of the second game to take the loss. Jada White (Fr, Philadelphia/Philadelphia) slugged a two-run homer in the fourth for Gulf Coast's only production.

Williams had a double in the second game for the other Lady Bulldogs hit.

Gulf Coast returns to action Friday at East Mississippi. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
