Coates’ great week wins MACCC prize
PERKINSTON — There are always some great performances each week in MACCC softball, but last week was a no-brainer in voting for Softball Player of the Week.
Gulf Coast's Emaleigh Coates could not have been much better in a 3-0 week for No. 3 Gulf Coast, which also included a save. She earned the award, which is voted on by the MACCC's sports information directors.
The right-hander from Lucedale struck out 21 batters in 19 innings, allowing just eight hits and three earned runs for a 1.11 ERA.
She had a win and a save in a sweep of Meridian, striking out seven while throwing a two-hitter in the opener. She blanked the Eagles for two innings in the second for her first save.
Coates threw a three-hitter against No. 6 Copiah-Lincoln and a two-hitter against Mississippi Delta.
She is now eligible for consideration for the NJCAA weekly awards, which will be announced Wednesday.
