Lady Bulldogs eliminated in penalty kicks

The Mississippi Gulf Coast women's soccer team saw its season end in the cruelest fashion Saturday in Ridgeland, failing to advance past the MACJC semifinals after penalty kicks after tying Jones County 1-1.

The Bobcats won 4-3 in penalty kicks.

"Overall, I thought we played 110 minutes of hard soccer," Gulf Coast coach Jackie Rhodes said. "I'm proud of what this team accomplished and for fighting to the very end."

The Lady Bulldogs finish the season 7-5-3. Jones County (9-2-1) play Holmes in the MACJC championship game Sunday.

Jess Shepherd (So., Parrswood/Manchester, England) put Gulf Coast up 1-0 with a first-half goal.

Jones tied the game on a penalty kick in the 62nd minute, on a call Rhodes protested vehemently.

Neither team scored in two overtimes. Neither team scored in the first round of PKs, with Haley Lott (Fr., West Harrison/Gulfport) saving a Jones attempt.

The Lady Bobcats would make their next four attempts, and Gulf Coast had its last attempt saved.
