No. 21 MGCCC beats ECCC 8-1

WIGGINS — No. 21 Mississippi Gulf Coast dominated East Central in MACCC women's tennis action Friday.

The Bulldogs beat the Warriors 8-1 at the Wynn Tennis Center. They got off to a quick start by sweeping three doubles matches. Tanyaradzwa Kaome (Fr., Harare, Zimbabwe/The Heritage School) and Hayden Hensarling (Fr., Ocean Springs/Ocean Springs).

"No. 1 doubles had a really tough, hard-fought match and wound up winning in a tiebreaker," Gulf Coast coach Sam Blackburn. "I was really proud of their fight and resilience. They pulled it out against a tough team."

Gulf Coast (3-2, 3-2 MACCC) only lost one court in singles and swept the other five sets in straight sets.

"Josie Vuyovich played the best tennis I've seen from her the entire year," Blackburn said. "She won easily, and it wasn't against an easy opponent. She flourished and all her hard work is paying off."

East Central is 2-2, 2-2.

Gulf Coast turns around and plays a doubleheader Saturday in Montgomery, Ala. The Bulldogs will play Coastal Alabama-South in the morning and host Huntingdon College in the afternoon.
