Beasley hired as RB coach

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast has added Nick Beasley to its football coaching staff, and head coach Jack Wright will put who he calls a "bright young coach" in charge of the Bulldogs' running backs.

"I graduated from a junior college, so I'm excited being back on the JUCO stage working with guys who are hungry, guys who are trying to make a name for themselves," Beasley said. "I want to help guys get to the next level. It feels like a family atmosphere. I know several of the coaching staff and two of them from my days at Co-Lin. They told me the type of program they are building here at Gulf Coast, and I felt it was a good fit for me."

He spent last year as an assistant at St. Joseph Catholic High School, his alma mater. Beasley was a Clarion-Ledger All-Metro First Team player for the Madison school, where he had 1,163 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns as a junior, as well as 66 tackles and five interceptions. He played in the Bernard Blackwell All-Star Game after his senior season when he ran for 509 yards and seven touchdowns, caught passes for 535 yards and nine touchdowns and had 72 tackles and five interceptions.

Beasley played one season at Copiah-Lincoln Community College, picking up 44 tackles, a sack and an interception as a redshirt freshman in 2014.

He signed with Middle Tennessee but sustained a career-ending knee injury during spring drills.

"Nick is a bright young coach," Wright said. "We're excited to have him on our staff. We expect him to contribute to our running backs' development and to the entire recruiting process here at the college. We're glad he's here. He's got a great attitude and is really working hard. We want him to develop into the coach he's got the potential to be."
