MGCCC Football kicks off Oct. 1

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast will open defense of its MACCC championship Oct. 1 with a rivalry showdown at Pearl River. The complete schedule can be found here.

The Bulldogs, who went 12-0 and won the 2019 NJCAA championship, kick off at Poplarville at 7 p.m. It's the first of a six-game regular-season slate against South Division foes.

"We're relieved that we are going to get to play, but we're not relieved about who we're playing," Gulf Coast coach Jack Wright. "We have a tough schedule. The MACCC South is the toughest division in all of JUCO. We expect every game to be a battle, and that's what we're preparing for."

The champions of the South and North will meet for the championship Nov. 19. The South Division champ will host.

Gulf Coast starts its home schedule Oct. 8 with a game against Hinds at A.L. May Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., as is the one a week later when Copiah-Lincoln visits Perkinston for Homecoming.

The Bulldogs travel to East Central on Oct. 22 before an open week.

The final two games of the season include a home matchup against Jones on Nov. 5 and a road trip to Southwest on Nov. 12.

"I'm just excited because there have been moments of doubt during the pandemic of whether we were going to be able to play," Wright said. "I think this is one step closer to us getting on the field and being able to perform like we want to this year."
