Double-double Dawson earns MACCC Player of the Week
PERKINSTON — Darius Dawson's consistent excellence has earned him MACCC Player of the Week honors.
The sophomore forward turned in a pair of double-doubles during Mississippi Gulf Coast's 1-1 week that saw him average 24.5 points and 10.5 rebounds.
Dawson paired with TK Catchings (So., New Hebron/Simpson Academy) for a Gulf Coast sweep of the MACCC weekly honors.
He had 21 points and 11 rebounds in a 90-67 win over Hinds, followed up by a 28-point, 10-rebound effort in an 83-71 loss at Itawamba.
Dawson shot 8-for-13 (61.5 percent) from the field in both games and made all 15 of his free-throw attempts during the week. He also had four steals and four blocks.
Dawson is the first Gulf Coast men's basketball player to earn the conference's weekly award this season, and he's now eligible for NJCAA honors, which will be announced Wednesday.
