Keller, Catchings named Bulldogs of the Week

PERKINSTON — Charlie Keller and TK Catchings have been named Bulldogs of the Week for Jan. 30-Feb. 5.

Keller, a freshman third baseman from Mobile, Ala., hit four home runs in a memorable collegiate debut for Mississippi Gulf Coast. He had two home runs in both ends of a season-opening doubleheader against Nunez. Gulf Coast won 9-1 and 17-1 at Perk, and Keller finished 5-for-8 with five RBI and five runs scored.

Catchings, a sophomore forward from New Hebron, had a pair of double-doubles in a 2-0 week for Gulf Coast. She had 15 points and 14 rebounds in a 66-44 win at Hinds, followed by a 16-point, 10-rebound night in a 73-47 win over Itawamba. She shot 64.7 percent from the field and 75 percent from the foul line and blocked four shots.

Also nominated:

K.K. Agner, a sophomore third baseman from Horn Lake, had a great opening week, batting .556 with two home runs and 12 RBI. She had homers in both games of a season-opening doubleheader at Baton Rouge, driving in a total of eight runs on the day.

Darius Dawson, a sophomore forward from Sumter, S.C., had two remarkably consistent double-doubles in a 1-1 week for Gulf Coast, averaging 24.5 points and 10.5 rebounds. He had 21 points and 11 rebounds in a 90-67 win over Hinds, followed up by a 28-point, 10-rebound effort in an 83-71 loss at Itawamba. He shot 8-for-13 (61.5 percent) from the field in both games and made all 15 of his free-throw attempts during the week. Dawson also had four steals and four blocks. 

JC Stogner, a sophomore right-hander from Sumrall, pitched 3.1 scoreless innings in a 9-1 win over Nunez. He struck out three and allowed three hits.

Jett Harrell, a freshman right-hander from Clarksdale, had a 1.62 ERA while going 1-0 in the opening week of the season for Gulf Coast. She beat South Arkansas by pitching 3.2 innings of one-run ball, and also batted .467 with two home runs.
