Burnham, Hensarling named Bulldogs of the Week

PERKINSTON — Will Burnham and Hayden Hensarling have been named Bulldogs of the Week for March 27-April 2.

Burnham, a freshman from Jackson, led Gulf Coast to a 21-shot victory at the Lou Hart Invitational in Meridian. He won medalist by firing 8-under for his second victory of the season. Gulf Coast finished off a regular-season sweep of six MACCC tournaments.

Hensarling, a sophomore from Ocean Springs, lost only one game in four matches last week. Against No. 17 Meridian, she teamed with Kendall Burn to win 8-1 at No. 2 doubles. She didn't drop a game in two No. 4 singles matches, including blanking her Southwest opponent. 

Also nominated: 

Olivia Plummer, a sophomore outfielder from Gulfport, had an unbelievable day in a sweep at East Mississippi. She had two triples and two RBI in Game 1, a 6-4 win in eight innings. Her second triple drove in the winning run. She had three doubles and another RBI in a 7-4 victory in the nightcap.

Levi Odom, a freshman right-hander from Brooklyn, made his first start of the season and more than doubled his time on the mound by throwing 3.1 innings against East Mississippi. He allowed just one run and four hits.

Sean Smith, a sophomore right fielder from Pascagoula, clubbed three home runs and batted .583 for the Bulldogs last week. He had two home runs in the opener against Jones. In an 8-7 win over East Mississippi, he had a home run, double and single. 

Orren Ladner, a sophomore from Perkinston, was dominant in winning four matches last week. Against No. 17 Meridian, he teamed with Kyle Bond to win No. 2 doubles 8-3 and dropped only two games at No. 5 singles. Ladner didn't lose a game in two matches against Southwest.
