Yelverton named MACJC Goalkeeper of the Week

Mississippi Gulf Coast freshman Bryce Yelverton has been named the MACJC Men's Goalkeeper of the Week. The Gulfport High product had nine saves in a 2-1 double-overtime victory over Hinds last week.

"He played a great game," Gulf Coast coach Chris Handy said. "Without him, we probably don't win that game. He made a lot of great saves and kept us in that game. He deserves that award for what he did."

The 6-foot-3, 195-pounder allowed only a goal on a penalty kick, one where he made a save on the first attempt, only to have the referee award a re-kick for having moved too soon. Yelverton got his hand on the second try, but it still went in.

Gulf Coast plays its first home game tonight. The women start at 5 p.m. Yelverton and the men take the field at 7.
