PERKINSTON – Goals flew in at all angles and in a balanced Mississippi Gulf Coast attack as the Bulldogs swarmed over Copiah-Lincoln, winning 7-1 Tuesday at Perkinston.
Six different players scored for Gulf Coast (3-2, 1-1 MACJC South), with James Beattie the only person to score twice.
"We were moving the ball about," said Beattie, who also added an assist. "We got seven goals, so that's good to add more to our tally. We dominated most of the game."
Gulf Coast led 5-0 at halftime. Gio Freitas opened the scoring, with an assist by Lewis Tillman. Beattie's first goal made it 2-0.
"The ball came over the top and I cut in side and hit it with my left foot," he said. "It went in the bottom corner past the keeper."
Jordan Guillot hit a long distance lofted ball past a helpless keeper for 3-0, with Jordan Parron converting Beattie's assist next.
Juan Salazar closed out the first half just before the whistle, with an assist from A'Darius Steele.
Beattie's second goal made it 6-0.
"The ball came over the top again," he said. "I touched it, beat two players and hit it at an awkward angle and beat the keeper."
Alan Vasquez closed out the scoring with an assist from Parron.
Aaron Gutierrez got a late consolation goal for Co-Lin (0-4, 0-2)
Gulf Coast turns its sights immediately to a big road trip to Ellisville.
"We've got a big game Friday," Handy said. "We haven't beaten Jones at Jones since I've been here, so we start working on that in the morning."
Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
