
Bell picks up win at Loyola University
Mississippi Gulf Coast opened its 2017 tennis season with a trip Friday to play Loyola University in New Orleans.
The Bulldogs fell 8-1 to the Wolf Pack, who received votes in the preseason NAIA Top 25 Poll.
Gulf Coast's Travis Bell (Fr, Jackson/Calloway) defeated Steven Le 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. He also teamed with John Murphy (Fr, Mobile, Ala./McGill-Toolen) in No. 1 doubles, where they narrowly lost to Le and Eresto de Diego 9-8.
The Bulldogs return to action Feb. 9 when Jones County visits the MGCCC Tennis Complex. The match starts at 1 p.m.
