Top-20 softball showdown set for Perk

PERKINSTON — No. 20 Mississippi Gulf Coast plays its final non-conference softball games of the year Wednesday, and it'll be a clash of Top-20 teams.

Seventh-ranked Kirkwood visits Ross-Smith Field for a doubleheader which will start at 2 p.m. The games will be streamed at https://livestream.com/mgcccbulldogs/events/10237114.

It will be the first home game for the Bulldogs since Feb. 19.

  • MGCCC: 8-11
  • Kirkwood: 9-5

Last Time Out

  • MGCCC split its MACCC-opening doubleheader at Northeast Mississippi, rebounding from a 5-0 loss in the opener to win the second 7-1.
  • Kirkwood beat Coastal Alabama-North 9-2 and 7-0 on Monday in Monroeville.

Previous Meeting

The teams met in last year's NJCAA Division II Championship in Oxford, Ala., with Gulf Coast winning 8-2 in eight innings in an elimination game. The Bulldogs scored six times in the eighth inning, with Kristian Jones' two-run homer starting the explosion.
