Bulldogs starts postseason Wednesday
PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast heads into the always tough MACCC Tournament as an underdog.
The Bulldogs claimed the final berth in the eight-team bracket on the final day of the season on Friday. They swept Mississippi Delta on the road and got some help.
Gulf Coast opens its tournament Wednesday in Ellisville by playing No. 4 Jones, which finished atop the regular-season standings. The game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. and all tournament games will be streamed at https://jcbobcats.com/watch. Fans should buy tickets at https://jcbobcats.com/tickets. Single-day passes are $10, with four-day tournament passes costing $30.

"Jones is very, very good," Gulf Coast coach David Kuhn said. "They're a great team with a great coaching staff. It's an awesome challenge for us. They're very good and have dominated all year long, but we played very well against them and had opportunities. We're excited to live for another day."
The event includes four other teams in the NJCAA Division II Top 20: No. 5 Copiah-Lincoln, No. 6 Itawamba, No. 9 Pearl River and No. 13 Northwest Mississippi.
Five teams will advance from the tournament to NJCAA Region 23 Tournament next week. For Gulf Coast, that means the Bulldogs have to win twice in any combination of winners' or losers' brackets games.
If they stay on the top of the bracket and keep winning games, it would mean only playing one game a day.
"It gives you a chance where you can use your entire pitching staff," Kuhn said. "You don't have to hold anything back to save an arm for next game. I like it. I look forward to it a lot."
