No. 11 Gulf Coast swarms Sun Chiefs
No. 11 Mississippi Gulf Coast rebounded from its first loss of the year by dominating Coastal Alabama-South in women's tennis action on Thursday in Bay Minette, Ala. The Bulldogs beat the Sun Chiefs 8-1.
"They put it on cruise control from the beginning," Gulf Coast coach Sam Blackburn said. "We had a couple of shaky areas and played through some tennis that wasn't our best on some courts, but we found a way to win on most of those courts. Overall, it was very good bouncing back from a loss the other day. It was good to get a confidence boost and keep this team progressing in a great way."
Gulf Coast (6-1) dropped only five games in sweeping the doubles action, then won two of the first three singles courts to clinch. Bayley Askin (So., St. Martin/St. Martin) lost only one game across three sets in singles and doubles, and Kendall Burn (Fr., Wiggins/Stone) dropped only three.
The Bulldogs return to MACCC action Tuesday with another road trip, this time to Raymond. They'll take on Hinds with first serves at 2 p.m. Their next home match has been moved up a day, with Holmes visiting Perkinston on March 9.
