No. 12 Women’s Tennis opens postseason Thursday

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast will play a familiar opponent in its first match at the NJCAA Region Women's Tennis Championship. 

The No. 12 Bulldogs will play Northwest Mississippi in Ellisville, with the match scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. Gulf Coast (12-4, 9-1 MACCC) finished the regular season as the MACCC runners-up to earn the No. 2 seed. 

Northwest (4-9, 4-6) is the seventh seed.

The teams played just last Tuesday, with Gulf Coast winning 9-0 in Senatobia. It was the regular-season finale for both teams.

The winner will play the No. 17 Meridian-No. 23 East Central winner in the semifinal at 2 p.m. on Friday.

The championship will be played Saturday at 10 a.m., with a third-place match at 2 p.m. The top three teams will advance to the NJCAA Women's Tennis Championship starting May 6 in Tyler, Texas.

No. 11 Jones plays Southwest Mississippi at the top of the bracket, and No. 22 Itawamba and No. 24 Copiah-Lincoln square off in the other quarterfinal Thursday.
