Smith, Hunt named Bulldogs of the Week

PERKINSTON — Baseball's Sean Smith and Women's Basketball's Ja'Sharreah Hunt have been named Bulldogs of the Week for Feb. 27-March 5.

Smith, a sophomore outfielder from Pascagoula, continued to hit the cover off the ball by batting .625 in four games for Gulf Coast. He had two doubles, a triple, two home runs and four RBI in a 1-3 week. He leads the NJCAA in the Triple Crown stats (.545 average, 10 HR, 29 RBI).

Hunt, a freshman point guard from Roxie, averaged 12.5 points while shooting 56.3 percent from the floor to help get Gulf Coast to the NJCAA Region 23 semifinals. She had 13 points, two rebounds and two assists in a 65-51 win over Coahoma in the quarterfinals, adding 12 points, six rebounds and three assists in a semifinal loss to Jones in Clinton. She was named to the All-Tournament team.

Kylie Burnette, a freshman right-hander from Picayune, went 2-0 during Gulf Coast's 3-1 week. She struck out four in 9.1 innings.

Kamryn LaFosse, a freshman catcher from Lake Charles, La., batted .455 with two homer and eight RBI during a 3-1 week for Gulf Coast. In a 9-2 win over Coastal Alabama-South, she went 2-for-3 with a homer a double and 4 RBI. She had a double and RBI in a 7-6 in the nightcap. LaFosse hit a home run and had three RBI in a 13-5 win over Baton Rouge.

Owen Stice, a freshman from Atlanta, won three of four matches during a 1-1 week for Gulf Coast. He won his No. 2 singles match in a team loss to Jones and won at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles in an 8-1 win at Coastal Alabama-South.

Kendall Burn, a freshman from Wiggins, won three of her four matches in a 1-1 week for Gulf Coast. She won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 singles in a 7-2 loss to Jones, and swept No. 2 doubles and No. 5 singles against Coastal Alabama-South in an 8-1 win.
