Anderson, Vance named Bulldogs of the Week

PERKINSTON — Nate Anderson and Abby Vance have been named Bulldogs of the Week for the week of March 13-19.

Anderson, a sophomore right-hander from Poplarville, made three near-perfect appearances in all three wins for Gulf Coast last week. He struck out five without a walk in five innings, allowing just one hit. He went three innings in an 8-2 win at Copiah-Lincoln, then got a save while retiring the last two batters in a 10-6 win over Itawamba. Anderson came back in the nightcap to get the last four outs and earn a 7-6 win.

Vance, a sophomore right-hander from Calhoun City, allowed just two earned runs in a complete game against No. 14 Itawamba. It was her first start and just her second appearance in the circle this season.

Also nominated:

Marc Stephens, a freshman shortstop from Orange Beach, Ala., batted .412 during a 3-1 week for Gulf Coast. He had hits in all four games, and his big game was a 3-for-5 performance in a 10-6 win over Itawamba. He had a home run and three RBI. He finished with five RBI for the week from the leadoff spot and fielded all 16 chances flawlessly.

Breanna Green, a sophomore second baseman from Saraland, Fla., led Gulf Coast by batting .385 last week. She had three RBI and scored three times.

Andrew Zielinski, a freshman from Ocean Springs, shot 2-over to finish tied for third at the GlenLakes Invitational in Foley, Ala. His score didn't count in the team total because he was playing as an individual, but No. 2 Gulf Coast rallied from a 10-shot deficit after the first round to win the 54-hole event by seven shots.
