Morgan scores 22 in MGCCC’s first loss

Mississippi Gulf Coast dropped its first game of the year, losing 94-85 on the road at Baton Rouge.

Winston Morgan (5-10, 170, So., East Catholic/Manchester, Conn.) scored 22 to lead the Bulldogs (2-1), who were without Tedrian Brisco (6-5, 195, So., Porter's Chapel/Vicksburg) and EJ Galloway (6-8, 210, Fr., Provine/Jackson). They missed another game with injury or illness.

"We've still got two kids out tonight that are key to us," Gulf Coast coach Wendell Weathers said. "Them being out tonight hurt. Without our starting post, and his backup, we're playing a lot of guys out of position and lose a lot of size inside. We got hammered pretty good on the boards."

Davion Cole-Johnson (6-4, 210, So., Pike/Glen Ellyn, Ill.) and Zach Parker (6-2, 185, So., Biloxi/Biloxi) chipped in 15 points each, and Jaylen Peters (6-3, 194, Fr., Pass Christian/Pass Christian) added 14.

Gulf Coast returns to action on Nov. 17 in its first home game. Bishop State will visit the Weathers/Wentzell Center, with tipoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Weathers hopes his team is back at full strength by ten.

"I hope they're back next week," he said. "The only positive about any of this is we're getting other kids a little bit of experience who probably wouldn't be getting much right now."
