MGCCC falls to hot-shooting JCJC

Five Mississippi Gulf Coast finished in double figures Monday, but it wasn't enough to beat sizzling Jones County. The Bulldogs saw their 10-game winning streak snapped by a 3-point barrage in a 111-102 loss.

"If we play the way we played tonight, I imagine we win most all our games," Gulf Coast coach Wendell Weathers said. "I'm not disappointed in how we played."

Gulf Coast (12-2, 4-1) is now in a three-way tie atop the MACJC South Division with No. 9 JCJC (13-1) and Southwest (10-4). The Bears were upset by Copiah-Lincoln on Monday.

Davion Cole-Johnson (6-4, 210, So., Pike/Glen Ellyn, Ill.) continued his torrid stretch with 29 points. He's averaging 30.3 points over the last four games.

Tedrian Brisco (6-5, 195, So., Porter's Chapel/Vicksburg) had 19, with Winston Morgan (5-10, 170, So., East Catholic/Manchester, Conn.) adding 18, Stacee St. Julian (6-0, 165, Fr., St. Martin/St. Martin) 15 and Zach Parker (6-2, 185, So., Biloxi/Biloxi) 14.

The Bobcats made 17 of 26 shots from behind the 3-point arc, while Gulf Coast finished with 7. Jones' D.C. Davis and Maurice Dunlap combined to shoot 13-of-17 from long range.

"If they can do that every night, there's nobody that can beat them," Weathers said. "We played them pretty dadgum good. We contested a lot of those shots."

Davis finished with 36 points, Tristan Walley had 30 and Dunlap had 19.

The Bulldogs' next game is Thursday when archrival Pearl River visits the Weathers/Wentzell Center. Tipoff in Perkinston is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
