Flanagan named All-Region 23

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast point guard Melvion Flanagan has grabbed another postseason honor. The MACCC's second-leading scorer earned a spot on the NJCAA All-Region 23 Team.

The freshman guard from Alexandria, La., averaged 19.9 points per game to garner recognition by the region's coaches.

Flanagan led the league in field goals (108), free throws (84) and minutes (587). His 85.7 percentage shooting from the free-throw line ranked third in the league, and his 39 3-point field goals was second-most in the league.

He had a 33-point effort against Hinds and 10 games with 20 or more points. Flanagan was named MACCC Player of the Week after combining that 33-point night with a 27-point game against Southwest Mississippi that included the game-winning layup in the final minute.

Flanagan nearly helped engineer an upset of Holmes in the first round of the region playoffs. The Bulldogs were within three points in the final minutes against the team that would go on to win the tournament and represent Region 23 at the NJCAA Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas.
