Harrell does it all in softball sweep
PERKINSTON — Jett Harrell had another big day, powering Mississippi Gulf Coast to a sweep of Bishop State at Ross-Smith Field.
The freshman from Clarksdale picked up the win in the first game and hit a pair of two-run homers in both games. The Bulldogs won the opener 7-1 and blanked the Wildcats 5-0 in the second.
Harrell (Fr., Clarksdale/Lee Academy) did a little of everything in the first game, hitting a double and home run to help earn her a complete game in the circle. She scattered four hits to improve to 5-2 working back-to-back days.
Back-to-back doubles in the third inning erased an early deficit. K.K. Agner (So., Horn Lake/Magnolia Heights) tied it up before Kamryn LaFosse made it 3-1.
Harrell hit a line drive over the left-field wall for a two-run homer in the next inning. Jorja Roberson (Fr., Branyan/East Union) doubled in two runs in the sixth.
Harrell had three hits and Agner had two.
In the second game, Kennedy Brown (So., Southaven/Northpoint Christian) and Kylie Burnette (Fr., Picayune/Picayune) combined to throw a four-hitter. Burnette got the win with three innings of no-hit work.
Gulf Coast got all five runs in the fifth. Breanna Green (So., Saraland Ala./Saraland) singled in the first run before Harrell's two-run shot. LaFosse drove in two runs with a two-out single to round out the scoring.
Gulf Coast has won three straight and is now 10-6. A doubleheader against Mississippi Delta will be played in Moorhead before the Bulldogs return home Tuesday for a pair against Coastal Alabama-South.
