Late goals win it for MGCCC

Mississippi Gulf Coast moved back above .500 with a 4-2 win over Southwest Tennessee at Meridian.

Paris Payne (Fr., Southampton, England/Saints Foundation) and Curissa Beatty (So., Biloxi/Biloxi) each had a goal and an assist, and Chloe Fell assisted twice for MGCCC (4-3).

The Lady Bulldogs (4-3) jumped out to an early two-goal lead, only to see the Saluqis tie it up in the second half.

"We created a lot of opportunities on offense, but we were really lazy on defense," Gulf Coast coach Jackie Rhodes said. "We were able to bounce back from those two goals, get some momentum and get those two goals late."

Kaitlyn Harwell (So., Wiggins/Stone) and Beatty scored in the first half. After Southwest Tennessee tied it up, Payne scored in the 79th minute, and Jade Bernet (Fr., Alicante, Spain/Narrabundah) added the insurance five minutes later.

"It's nice to see the goals are being spread around our entire offense," Rhodes said. "It shows you they're really working up top. We just want to start clicking on all cylinders offensively and defensively."

Southwest Tennessee is 4-5-1.

Gulf Coast returns to action Tuesday when Hinds visits Bary Thrash Field. Kickoff is at 5 p.m.
