Lovertich, Zendejas named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week

PERKINSTON — Chance Lovertich and Kelby Zendejas have been named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week for Aug. 27-Sept. 2.

Lovertich, a freshman quarterback from Jackson Prep, completed 17-of-18 passes for 296 yards and 2 touchdowns in Mississippi Gulf Coast 52-0 win over Mississippi Delta. He threw scoring passes of 44 and 83 yards.

Zendejas, a freshman striker from Northwest Rankin, scored twice in Mississippi Gulf Coast's season-opening 3-1 win over Pearl River.

Also nominated:

Haley Lott, a sophomore from West Harrison, allowed one goal on five shots against Pearl River.

Shaun Anderson, a freshman running back/wide receiver from Picayune, returned two punts for 76 yards against Delta. He had returns of 39 and 37 yards.

Jackie Matthews, a freshman defensive back from Pinson, Ala., had a sack among his six total tackles in Mississippi Gulf Coast's 52-0 win over Mississippi Delta.
