
Williams, Davis named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week
PERKINSTON — Camryn Williams and Alden Davis have been named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week for April 29-May 5.
Williams, a sophomore designated player from White Hall, Ark., had a dominant week at the plate for No. 9 Gulf Coast, batting .722 with three home runs and 15 RBI. She hit safely in all six games during a 5-1 week. She had three-hit games against Meridian and Mississippi Delta, and drove in five runs in a 16-0 win against Coahoma.
Davis, a sophomore third baseman from Pascagoula, batted .500 with two home runs in a 2-2 week for Gulf Coast. He went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in a 17-2 win over Southwest, and his three-run homer in the seventh helped the Bulldogs rally to take a lead against Itawamba before losing 10-9. He went 4-for-5 in that contest.

Avery Sanders, a sophomore right-hander from Thibodaux, La., didn't allow an earned run and struck out 25 batters in a 3-0 week. She allowed three hits in each of her wins, an 11-3 result over Meridian, a 9-0 win at Mississippi Delta, and a 16-0 win over Coahoma. Sanders also had a pinch-hit grand slam in an 11-10 win over Meridian, her only appearance at the plate in the week.
Truitt Smith, a sophomore left-hander from Stone, allowed just three hits and one earned run in 5.1 innings but lost 4-1 to Itawamba.
