Simmons, Spivery named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week

PERKINSTON — Kayla Simmons and LaRaymond Spivery have been named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week for Dec. 3-9.

 

Simmons, a freshman forward from Brandon, had double-doubles in two wins for Mississippi Gulf Coast, averaging 17.5 points and 14.5 rebounds while shooting 77.3 percent from the field. In a 78-69 win over East Central, she had 21 points, 16 rebounds and three steals. In a 70-36 win over Delgado, she had 14 points and 13 rebounds.

 

Spivery, a sophomore point guard from Lucedale, hit a buzzer-beating, game-tying 3-pointer to force overtime and scored 27 points in Gulf Coast's 83-80 win over East Central. He led a dramatic comeback down seven with less than a minute to go in regulation, and finished with five rebounds, two assists, four steals and a block.

Phoenix Ford, a freshman forward from St. Petersburg, Fla., barely missed two double-doubles and averaged 16.5 rebounds in a pair of victories. In the win over East Central, he scored nine points and had 14 rebounds and two steals. In an 84-64 win over Delgado, he grabbed an eye-popping 19 rebounds to go with 14 points, two steals and two blocks.

 

Allison Martin, a freshman from Raymond, averaged 14 points while making 50 percent of her 3-point attempts for the Lady Bulldogs.
