MGCCC women settle for tie at PRCC

Ties aren't always a lot of fun, and Mississippi Gulf Coast wasn't playing for one Tuesday in Poplarville, but the Lady Bulldogs' 0-0 double-overtime result against archrival Pearl River is one they'll take.

"That tie is good for us," Gulf Coast coach Jackie Rhodes said. "We wanted to win, but a tie is good for us. When it comes down to it, the tie keeps us in position where we want to be. It sets us up for a home game in the playoffs."

Gulf Coast (4-5-1, 3-1-1 MACJC South) stays in second in the division, one game ahead of PRCC (5-6-1, 2-2-1).

The game lived up to all the rivalry buildup.

"I've been part of a lot of intense games, but that one might be the top," Rhodes said. "It was fun. It was fun to see them play … we asked them to play hard for 90 minutes, and they did it for 110."

Kaitlyn Harwell (So., Wiggins/Stone) almost won it for the Lady Bulldogs in the 107^th minute. Her shot from the left of the D at the top of the 18-yard box hit the upper-right junction of the upright and crossbar.

"She almost won it twice. She had another one that just went wide that everybody thought we in," Rhodes said. "What an effort. We had several people hurt, and they pushed through it."

Gulf Coast plays back at home Friday when Meridian visits Bary Thrash Field. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. The game will be streamed at https://livestream.com/MGCCCBulldogs/events/8396765.
