No. 5 Bulldogs clinch home playoff game

Seven different Bulldogs scored Tuesday for No. 5 Mississippi Gulf Coast, which ran past East Mississippi 8-0 in Scooba. The three points in the standings clinched a home playoff game.

It was the second mercy-rule win of the season for Gulf Coast, with the game stopped after 70 minutes. Ten different players wound up on the scoresheet. 

Gulf Coast improved to 9-2-1 overall, 7-1-1 MACCC. The Bulldogs are tied with Northwest for second but lose a tiebreaker on goal differential.

Laylah Johnson (So., Gulfport/Gulfport) scored the first goal 65 seconds in, and another 10 minutes later as the Bulldogs built a 4-0 lead in the first 20 minutes.

Linda Mustered (So., Biloxi/St. Patrick) had a goal and two assists. Anna Katherine Thriffiley (Fr., Biloxi/St. Patrick) and Hailey Moore (So., Biloxi/Biloxi) had a goal and an assist each. Josey Smith (So., Bay St. Louis/Hancock), Nakiya Richardson (Fr., Gulfport/Biloxi) and Libby Fraser (So., Cambridge, England/Hills Road College) also scored.

Vanessa Radojevic (Fr., Sciez, France/Lycee De La Versoie), Kayleigh Crosslin (Fr., Ocean Springs/Ocean Springs) and Anna Vincent (Fr., Meridian/West Lauderdale) had assists.

The Gulf Coast defense pitched its sixth shutout of the season. Kaylee Tardo (Fr., Madison/Germantown) got the win in goal but didn't face a shot.

The Bulldogs beat East Central 8-0 in 70 minutes in September.

East Mississippi falls to 0-10-1, 0-7-1.

The Bulldogs will play their next three matches at home, closing out the regular season against Hinds on Friday and Itawamba next Tuesday. The NJCAA Gulf South District quarterfinal is scheduled for Oct. 31.
