No. 12 Bulldogs get 3 more victories
No. 12 Mississippi Gulf Coast added three more wins to its Texas haul Monday on the third day of the NJCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championship.
The Bulldogs got two wins in singles and one in doubles in the consolation brackets, each by 8-0 scores. The event is being hosted by Tyler Junior College at the JoAnn Medlock Murphy Tennis Center.
"We played good," Gulf Coast coach Sam Blackburn said. "Most of the matches, we were favored in pretty good. We took care of business in all those and played well."
Angela Moreno (So., Sevilla, Spain/IES V Centenario) moved into the semifinals of the No. 1 singles consolation bracket by betting Oakton's Zarina Sayed. Kendall Burn (So., Wiggins/Stone) did likewise in No. 4 singles with a victory over Azelia Lara from Paradise Valley.
In No. 3 doubles, Mikenzy Dubrow (Fr., Biloxi/Biloxi) and Lauren Sullivan (Fr., Laurel/Laurel Christian) defeated Weatherford's Chloe Baker and Sara Maksimovic.
"They had a tough loss against a pretty good team yesterday after having a set point in the second set," Blackburn said. "They responded and got the job done today pretty quick. They get to play Meridian tomorrow, so they're excited."
