Mississippi Gulf Coast got yet another MACCC split Saturday at Clarksdale, winning one and losing one against Coahoma.
The Bulldogs rallied late to for extra innings to win 7-6 in 10 innings in the first, the falling 7-5 in the second.
Gulf Coast led 3-1 going into the seventh inning of the opener, but the Tigers scored there in the seventh and two in the eighth to fall behind 6-3. Brendan McCauley (So., Gulfport/Harrison Central) had an RBI groundout in the ninth ahead of a two-out, two-run single by Sean Smith (Fr., Pascagoula/Pascagoula) to tie it up.
Adam Bassett (So., Laurel/West Jones) squeezed in the winning run in the 10th, and Luke Reed (So., Louisville, Ky./Holy Cross) came in with one on in the bottom of the inning to retire three straight for his first save.
Alec Hardy (So., Wiggins/Stone) squeezed in a run in the second inning of Game 2, and Alex McWhorter (So., Semmes, Ala./Faith Academy) had a two-run double in the third. Cade Crosby (Fr., Gulfport/Gulfport) tacked on another run in the next inning with an RBI single.
Coahoma, however, scored six times in the fifth, including five with two outs, and another two-out run in the sixth for a 7-4 lead. Jesse Johnson (So., Purvis/Purvis) had an RBI single in the seventh, but left the bases loaded.
McWhorter went 5-for-6 in the doubleheader with three doubles and three RBI. Kade Carpenter (Fr., Vancleave/Vancleave) had four hits, a double and scored three times, and Cade Crosby (Fr., Gulfport/Gulfport) had three hits, including a double.
Gulf Coast is now 11-16 overall, 6-6 in MACCC play. The Bulldogs have split all six conference doubleheaders. Coahoma is 7-15, 2-10.
MGCCC plays at home Wednesday when East Central visits Perkinston. The doubleheader start at 3 p.m. at Ken "Curly" Farris Field.
