Barlow, Wasson win MACCC awards

PERKINSTON — Two Mississippi Gulf Coast players grabbed MACCC Player of the Week honors for the second week of the season.

Lineman Hydee Barlow won Defensive Player of the Week, and kicker Dylan Wasson took home Special Teams Player of the Week.

Hydee Barlow, a sophomore defensive tackle from Forest, had a dominant game for No. 6 Gulf Coast in an 18-16 win at Northeast. He had 14 total tackles, 4 tackles for loss and half a sack. Barlow also teamed with linebacker CJ Williams for a first-quarter safety. Barlow was a big reason Northeast ran 12 plays inside the MGCCC 10-yard line without scoring a touchdown.

Dylan Wasson, a freshman from Madison, kicked a 25-yard field goal with 58 seconds left to give the win at Northeast. He was perfect on three field-goal attempts, including a 40-yarder, and made his only PAT attempt.

Barlow and Wasson are now eligible for NJCAA weekly honors.

The No. 5 Bulldogs play archrival Pearl River on Thursday. It will be the first game at A.L. May Memorial Stadium this season, and kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
