PERKINSTON — After having played four of its first five games on the road, No. 9 Mississippi Gulf Coast gets back to A.L. May Memorial Stadium this week.
The Bulldogs (4-1, 2-1 MACCC South) play the first of three games at Perk in the final four weeks of the regular season, and it will start sorting out the playoff race. East Central (2-3, 2-1) is tied with Gulf Coast for second in the division, along with Copiah-Lincoln.
The Warriors have put together a two-game winning streak to move into that position, and done so with stout defensive performances.
"They're very, very good on defense," Gulf Coast coach Jack Wright said. "They don't give up a lot of yards. They consistently stop the best teams on their schedule. Really, that's the personality of their team is great defense, great special teams. It's been that way the last three years. They're really tough to move the ball against defensively."

The Warriors held Southwest Mississippi and Pearl River to two touchdowns each in their win streak. They also held East Mississippi and Jones at or under their scoring average.
The Bulldogs edged Copiah-Lincoln last week 14-13, scoring with two seconds left on a two-minute drive. They had to shuffle around their offensive line because of injuries and suspension and moved Kyle Bruce (So., Florence/Florence) from guard to right tackle.
"I wasn't too concerned about it because we've done it some in practice and he's been good," Wright said. "I felt really comfortable with him. He's a football-savvy guy and did a great job in that situation. He came in and played really well. We recruited him as a guard, he's played as a guard, but he's played enough tackle here to go in and play like he did to win Thursday night. He had a winning performance on Thursday night."
