Smith named MACCC Player of the Week
PERKINSTON — Anywhere you looked Thursday night in Ellisville, Mike Smith was there.
The conference noticed as the sophomore linebacker/safety from Flora was named MACCC Defensive Player of the Week for his monumental efforts. He led No. 13 Mississippi Gulf Coast's 27-24 upset of No. 1 Jones.
Smith had eight solo tackles and 10 assists against the Bobcats. He leads the NJCAA and MACCC with 84 total tackles.
He's the third Bulldog to win conference player of the week honors. Defensive lineman Hydee Barlow and kicker Dylan Wasson won after the win at Northeast Mississippi.
Smith is now eligible for the NJCAA weekly award.
