Gulf Coast entertains Jacksonville on Friday

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast tinkered with its formation this week on a trip to Holmes.

The Lady Bulldogs got shut out 3-0 and return to the new MGCCC Soccer Complex rethinking that idea heading into a contest against Jacksonville College. The teams kick off at 4 p.m.

"We know little tactical things they are going to do, but I'm more concerned about what we're going to do," Gulf Coast coach Jackie Rhodes said. "I'm concerned to see if we can create opportunities for ourselves. We didn't have those opportunities on Tuesday."

Gulf Coast (5-2-1) will face a tougher opponent than the record makes it appear. The Texas squad is 0-6-1 but is playing against tougher opposition out there.

The Lady Bulldogs had a four-game win streak snapped against Holmes and need to get back on track in the last non-division game of the regular season.

Gulf Coast, which is in second place in the MACJC South, will entertain a Pearl River team it upset in the first meeting of the year, then head to Jones County. PRCC is third in the division, with Jones atop the pack.

The top three teams advance to the state playoffs.

"That's what I'm looking forward to on Friday," Rhodes said, "finding what works for us again, especially going into a big week next week."
