Yelverton, Walters sweep MACJC Keeper awards
PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast's Bryce Yelverton and Kassady Walters swept the MACJC Goalkeeper of the Week awards for Aug. 29-Sept. 4. They each blanked archrival Pearl River 1-0 in Poplarville.
Yelverton, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound sophomore from Gulfport High School, stopped all eight shots he faced in his victory. He has two shutouts on the young season.
Walters, a 5-foot-9 sophomore from Harrison Central, also made eight saves against No. 19 Pearl River.
Gulf Coast returns to action Friday when Copiah-Lincoln visits Perkinston. The women's game kicks off at the new MGCCC Soccer Complex at 5 p.m., when the men scheduled to start at 7.
