Yelverton, Bates, Story and Beattie will play in All-Star Game

PERKINSTON — The South Division champion Mississippi Gulf Coast men's soccer team placed four players on the roster for the MACJC Soccer All-Star Games: keeper Bryce Yelverton, defender Bennett Bates, defender Ian Story and forward James Beattie.

 

The games, which are hosted by Holmes Community College will be played Saturday at Freedom Ridge Park in Ridgeland. The women's match starts at 2 p.m., with the men at 4:30.

 

Yelverton, a sophomore from Gulfport, had a 1.35 goals-against average with six shutouts. He was tied for sixth in NJCAA Division I in shutouts.

 

Bates, a freshman from West Harrison, had two assists while playing outside back for the Bulldogs. He sat out last season with a knee injury and will graduate after this school year.

 

Story, a sophomore from Pass Christian, had two goals while playing central defense during his only season at Gulf Coast. Story transferred from Tyler Junior College.

 

Beattie, a sophomore from Glasgow, Scotland, led the Bulldogs with 15 assists, sixth best in the country. He also netted 12 goals this year, and finished with 25 goals and 26 assists during his career.
