MGCCC men pound PRCC 4-1

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast coach Chris Handy will take the season sweep of archrival Pearl River, even if there were things he wanted improved.

The Bulldogs won 4-1 and stayed two games ahead of the pack in the MACJC South Division. They inched closer to winning the South and earning the right to host the state tournament.

"It wasn't always pretty, but with the win we accomplished the goal we wanted," Handy said. "We won by three, and it moves us closer."

Gulf Coast (10-1, 6-0 South) extended its win streak to nine games. PRCC falls to 4-7, 2-4.

Ian Story (6-2, 185, So., Pass Christian/Gulfport) scored his second goal of the year on a long free kick from near the centerline and the sideline. The ball bounced over the keepers head and the Bobcats couldn't clear it off the line in the 16th minute.

Jordan Hall (5-9, 163, Fr., Royton and Crompton/Manchester, England) got his first of two goals on the season from a pass by James Beattie (5-7, 155, So., Williamwood/Glasgow, Scotland) 17 minutes later.

Beattie got his fifth goal early in the second half to push the advantage to 3-0.

After PRCC pulled a goal back, Hall scored his 22nd goal of the season with brains and hard work. He lurked behind a Wildcat defender and pounced on a back pass. Hall touched it past the keeper for the final margin.

There were six yellow cards and a red card in the game.

"In this game, emotions are always running high," Handy said. "We played a little selfishly early on. In the second half, I thought we moved the ball a lot better. IT was a much smoother half, as a result. We've got to learn to be a little more unselfish."
