MGCCC powers past Hinds

PERKINSTON — The top two teams in the MACJC played a taut game for 60 minutes Tuesday at the new MGCCC Soccer Complex.

Mississippi Gulf Coast's relentless pressure, however, generated three goals late in an 4-0 win over Hinds. Jordan Hall scored twice in a four-minute span to break the game open and wound up with one goal better than his fourth hat trick in a row.

"They're a good team, but I don't think we're four goals better," Bulldogs coach Chris Handy said. "In the end you try to transfer it to the playoffs. With this team, we know the regular season doesn't matter."

Handy pointed out after the game that the 2013 Bulldogs defeated Hinds 4-0 in the regular season, only to lose 3-1 in the MACJC quarterfinals to end their season.

This year's Gulf Coast squad leads the South Division. The Bulldogs improved to 7-1 in the non-division contest. Hinds, which tops the North, falls to 3-3-1.

The Bulldogs got their fourth shutout in a row and sixth win in a row. It's the sixth shutout of the season for Bryce Yelverton (6-3, 205, So., Gulfport/Gulfport), who leads the nation.

A hard shot by Jordan Hall (5-9, 163, Fr., Royton and Crompton/Manchester, England) resulted in the game's only goal of the first half. It ricocheted off a Hinds defender in the 20^th minute.

James Beattie (5-7, 155, So., Williamwood/Glasgow, Scotland) picked up his first of two assists on Hall's goal in the 62^nd minute.

Hall forced the third goal in the 65^th minute, then Beattie curled a beautiful pass with the outside of his foot that found Hall for his fourth.

"It's probably one of the best teams I've ever been a part of," Hall said. "From Bryce (Yelverton) in goal all the way to me up top, everyone puts a shift in. The people who come off the bench make a difference."
