MGCCC scores 3 late to beat Andrew

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast allowed its first goal in 410 minutes, but the Bulldogs pulled away late and beat Andrew College 4-1.

Gulf Coast scored three times in the last 14 minutes at the new MGCCC Soccer Complex to improve to 8-1 on the season.

"We didn't have a lot of flow," Bulldogs coach Chris Handy said. "I don't know whether it was because it was hot early. We couldn't keep the ball. That hurt us."

Andrew falls to 1-8.

Liam Eadsforth (5-11, 145, Fr., The Radclyffe School/Manchester, England) and Caleb Counselman (5-10, 160, Fr., Pass Christian/Pass Christian) alternated goals for Gulf Coast.

Eadsforth put Gulf Coast up 1-0 with a long dribble from midfield before he chipped the keeper in the 19th minute.

Andrew's Youssef Saleh scored in the 51st minute, breaking the long Gulf Coast shutout streak.

The Bulldogs, however, were able to extend their win streak to seven. Jordan Hall (5-9, 163, Fr., Royton and Crompton/Manchester, England) hustled to the end line to save a ball, and Counselman was there to head it home.

Eadsforth had another long run from midfield to make it 3-1 with 8:43 left, and Counselman got his second just over two minutes later.

Ian Story (6-2, 185, So. Pass Christian/Gulfport) played a long ball into the box from the halfway line, and the Andrew keeper parried Hall's volley. Counselman again nodded it home.

"We didn't want to lose our winning streak," Counselman said. "We didn't start off as well as we wanted to. Late, we turned it around."

Gulf Coast returns to action Saturday when Jacksonville College visits Perkinston. Kickoff is at 2 p.m.
