PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast got its mojo back Friday, beating Jacksonville College 4-0 at the new MGCCC Soccer Complex.
It wasn't just that the Lady Bulldogs (6-2-1) won, it was how they won. Four different players scored.
"They executed that first 45 minutes almost perfectly," Gulf Coast coach Jackie Rhodes said. "I won't call it perfect, but it's as close as we've gotten this year. It's a good confidence builder for Tuesday."
Jacksonville, from Texas, falls to 0-7-1.
Gulf Coast had gone to Holmes earlier in the week and lost 3-0. The Lady Bulldogs needed to turn things around before a big MACJC South match against Pearl River in Perkinston.
"We preached about how to bounce back from a tough loss on Tuesday," Rhodes said. "They did it exactly how we wanted it to happen."
Jess Shepherd (5-6, Fr., Parrswood/Manchester, England) put Erin Longsden (5-5, Fr., Droylsden Academy/Manchester, England) through in the 28th minute. Her shot clanged off the post, but L.T. Massey (5-6, Fr., Oak Grove/Hattiesburg) was there to put in her fifth goal for the season.
Casey LaFontaine (5-5, Fr., Pass Christian/Pass Christian) added her third goal nine minutes later.
Shannon Swilley (5-4, Fr., Pass Christian/Pass Christian) scored in the 78th minute to ice the game, then assisted on Shepherd's goal five minutes later.
Swilley has two goals on the season, while Shepherd leads the team with eight.
