PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast fought tooth and nail Friday with Jones, ranked second in the NJCAA women's soccer rankings.
The Bulldogs hit a crossbar in the first half, but it was a shot off the post in the first overtime for the game's only goal that decided the game for the Bobcats.
"That was a tough one," Gulf Coast coach Jackie Rhodes said. "I thought we battled for 98 minutes. I know we lost, but I'm super proud."
Leah Bennett (So., Cape Town, South Africa/Mondeor) took a free kick in the first half that banged off the metal work. There were three Bulldogs around the rebound, but nobody could guide it over the line.
Gulf Coast (5-6, 3-4 MACCC South) remained solidly in third place in the division. The top three teams will qualify for the postseason.
The Bulldogs return to action at Bary Thrash Field on Tuesday. They'll kick off at 5 p.m.
